*- “Jeremy! Get down here! We’re gonna be late!” I yelled upstairs. Jeremy mumbled a muffled response and stumbled down the stairs. Jeremy was my twelve year old younger brother. I was two years older than him. “Are you happy now?” He asked sarcastically. He looked around the living room. “Where’s Aunt Maddie?” He asked. “She had to get to work early, so you’re eating cereal.” I replied, handing him a bowl of Cocoa Puffs. “Mom always fixed breakfast.” He muttered. A pain surged through my heart. Our dad had put us up for adoption and we’d never met our real mom. Our adoptive mom had adopted us when we were little kids and she was all we had. She had died a few months ago and we had moved in with our aunt. “Jeremy…” I started. “It’s ok. Here I’m done. Let’s go.” He handed me his still half-full bowl and headed for the door. I sighed and followed him. Even though we had just moved in with my aunt this wasn’t my first time in New York. We had come visit a million times, and I could pretty much find my way around. I knew where Goode High School was because we had to pass by here every time we came to visit. For some reason I felt like someone was watching me. It wasn’t like that feeling you get when someone’s behind you, but more like that feeling you get when you someone’s staring at the back of your head. I started to cross the road. “Des watch out!” I screamed and Jeremy pulled me out of the way just before I got hit by a car. “Hey, watch where you’re going!” He yelled at the guy driving. He looked back at me. “You ok? Gosh that was so weird, it was almost like he was trying to hit you.” “Looks like someone was in a hurry,” I muttered as I got up and continued walking across the street. “Well this is starting off to be a great first day of school.” Jeremy commented as we neared his school. “Tell me something I don’t know,” I replied. Then I stopped dead in my tracks. Because standing beside the door was a guy and he was looking straight at me. He looked about eighteen and boy was he hot. This weird reddish-orange light seemed to be coming off of him. I don’t know why he gave me the creeps; it was just like, I knew him. Nobody else seemed to notice him. “Hello, earth to Destiny! What is it?” I was about to point out the guy, but when I looked again, he wasn’t there. “Nothing. Um, have a good day at school.” He shrugged and walked through the doors of the school. I turned around and started walking towards Goode High.

^- So far I was having a pretty normal day. No monster attacks, no Iris Messages, nothing. It was weird to have a normal day. Before I knew it the bell rang signal the end of the day. I was heading for the parking lot when I saw someone. Someone who really shouldn’t be here. When I saw him I nearly dropped my backpack. I ran towards him. “What are you doing here?!” I asked quietly. “I knew it. I told her. But did she listen, no. Because she thinks she’s the smart one. I’m the god of prophecies and she’s the smart one.” Apollo muttered. “What are you talking about?!” I asked, completely confused. He blinked and looked away from the spot he’d been staring at. “Oh, hey Percy!” I heard a few girls giggle when he talked. “I didn’t know you went to school here! I just wanted to thank you again for not choosing to destroy Olympus last year! Thanks! Well, um, bye! I got to go! I left the chariot running.” He waved and disappeared into the crowd. I stood there with my mouth open wondering, ‘What the Tartarus just happened?’ I turned and looked at the spot where he’d been staring. Just a bunch of freshman girls and boys. Then I heard a familiar voice call my name. One that either meant something really bad was gonna happen or I was about to head to camp. (One usually followed the other.) I turned around to find Annabeth running toward me.

@- I couldn’t believe I was actually seeing Percy! I ran up and hugged him. “Annabeth? What are doing here?” He asked, surprised. “Well hello to you too.” I said sarcastically. “I didn’t mean that… I just… and you were…” I couldn’t help but laugh. “What are doing here?” He asked again. I put on a serious expression. “We found a half-blood.” “Where? Here? There haven’t been any attacks lately.” I wanted to explain it to him, but we didn’t have time. Because the girl Chiron had described was walking off. I grabbed Percy’s arm. “C’mon.” I ordered, and we ran after her.
